Performance-Based Contracting is a term coined by National Comfort Institute Inc (NCI), which describes their unique approach that originated with delivering measured performance in HVAC systems to consumers. This term was later expanded to further describe how contractors manage their businesses through accountability and measurable results.
Simply put, Performance-Based contractors rely on airflow, pressure, and other measurements to diagnose system problems and identify solutions. Once the problems are resolved, the contractor repeats the measurements taken initially to prove the system is working as promised. Performance-Based Contracting is about proving that you did what you said you were going to do.
